Dark Protector

الفصل 7

Chapter 7

The cold water seared my lungs as I desperately paddled towards the shore. My panicked, trembling hands struggled to grip the slick moss, while the icy rocks scraped against my skin. Rüzgar was behind me like a shadow, his strong arms grasping me and pulling me up sharply.

"Are you okay?" His voice was anxious, lost in the roar of the waterfall. But I wasn’t focused on his worry, but rather on the bitter taste of betrayal.

"Demir..." I whispered, my words falling from my lips like a trembling leaf. "Demir is alive."

The expression on Rüzgar's face vanished so quickly that I couldn't be sure if what I saw was real or a figment of my imagination. That dark glint in his eyes was enough to send a shiver down my spine. *What are you hiding, Rüzgar?*

"Don't talk nonsense," he said in an icy voice. "That man is dead. What you saw must have been an illusion."

"It's not an illusion," I retorted, my anger sharp enough to melt glaciers. I could never forget that name etched into the rock behind the waterfall, that familiar handwriting. "It was my Demir. And you... you knew about it."

Rüzgar clenched his jaw and looked away. That evasive glance had ignited the doubts in my mind. My heart was slowly being poisoned by the venom of betrayal. *How can I trust you? How can I believe you?*

"Lale, listen to me..." he began, his voice pleading. "Demir is dead. That night... that night I..."

"You what?" I interrupted, curiosity and fear intertwined. "What did you do, Rüzgar? Why aren't you talking about murdering my fiancé?"

Rüzgar's eyes flared for a moment. "I can't tell you that," he hissed. "Not now."

"What can't you tell me? Why?" I pressed, louder. "What are you hiding from me? Why are you constantly concealing things?"

Rüzgar took a step closer to me. "To protect you," he said, his voice deep and hoarse. "I just want to protect you."

"Protect me?" I scoffed. "Did you kill my fiancé to protect me? Did you turn my life into hell to protect me?"

An expression of pain crossed Rüzgar's face. "I wish I could change everything," he whispered. "I wish I hadn't been there that night."

"But you were there," I said, not caring about the tears streaming down my face. "You were there and you took him from me. And now you're lying to me."

At that moment, the tension between us became palpable. As the dark shadows of the forest closed in around us, we both silently stared at each other. I was trying to decipher the complex expression in Rüzgar's eyes. Regret, guilt, or something else?

"I'll tell you everything," he finally said, his voice firm. "But first, we have to get out of here. They'll find us."

"Where are we going?" I asked, desperately. "Who are we going to trust?"

"Just trust me," Rüzgar said, holding my hand tightly. "Just me."

I wanted to trust him. Maybe I had no other choice. But that dark suspicion inside me continued to follow me like a shadow.

As we passed through the ashes of what remained of the mountain house, a feeling grew inside me: This was just the beginning. As the truths came out, everything would become even more complicated.

When we got into Rüzgar's car, the night had grown even darker. As we drove down the road through the forest, the only thing breaking the silence was the hum of the engine. I didn't know where we were going. But I knew one thing: Nothing would ever be the same again.

Rüzgar drove the car deep into the forest. After a while, we came to a small cabin, hidden from view. It was as if this place had been completely cut off from the rest of the world.

When we entered the cabin, a dim light was burning inside. There was a simple wooden table, a few chairs, and a fireplace. This place could be nothing more than a temporary refuge.

"We'll be safe here," Rüzgar said, his voice trying to reassure me. "No one will find us here."

But I wasn't so sure. It was as if fate had drawn us into a game, and there was no escape from this game.

Rüzgar began placing the logs to light the fireplace. As the fire crackled, warming the cabin, the coldness inside me didn't go away.

"Get some rest," Rüzgar said, turning to me. "I'll check around."

I nodded and left my tired body on an old armchair. When I closed my eyes, the events of that night began to come to life in my mind. Demir's smile, that loving expression in his eyes... And then, how everything suddenly turned to darkness.

When I opened my eyes again, I saw Rüzgar returning to the cabin. There was a strange expression on his face.

"What happened?" I asked, anxiously.

"Someone is watching us," Rüzgar said, his voice icy. "And I think the person who found us... is someone we never expected."
