The sky was red.
Not sunset. Smoke.
In the middle: Table 4.
White. Blue rim. Half-eaten.
2 chairs left. The other 2: gone.
On the table: 2 broken drums. Blood on them.
And there: The Hunger.
Bigger than ever.
Next to him: The Fade.
A shadow that made you forget your own name just by looking.
Around them: 2 people. Barely standing.
The Lagos Authors.
Eyes empty. Memories gone.
Fritz: "They’ve been here too long."
Miri: "The Fade took their names."
Alex: "The Hunger took everything else."
Umi: "And Hana’s team behind her." 8 new Authors. Tokyo + São Paulo.
The book was almost torn apart:
_Table 4 Authors: 2 left.
Last entry: "We forgot... why we write."_
The Hunger: grinned _"You’re late.
I’m full.
But I’ll make room for dessert."_
The Fade: turned to Umi.
Umi felt it. Her name slipping.
Miri. Alex. Fritz. Lila.
Gone.
Umi: grabbed the table. "NO."
The Pen, String, Lens burned in her hands.
The Tokyo + São Paulo Authors put their hands on her shoulders.
Umi: screaming "We remember for them!"
The Plan:
If The Fade eats memory, then we give it too much to eat.
Minute 1-3: Name them
Umi wrote: You are Amina. You are Tunde.
The 2 Lagos Authors blinked.
Hana wrote: You are Tokyo. You are São Paulo.
São Paulo leader wrote: You are The Authors.
Names filled the air like fireflies.
The Fade staggered. Too many names.
Minute 4-7: Feed the table
Miri: didn’t sing. She hummed the names.
Alex: didn’t play. He drummed the names on the broken drums.
Fritz: didn’t photo. He drew the names with light from the Lens.
All 12 Authors: told 1 story each. Out loud. Together.
Table 4 started repairing itself.
Blue rim glowing.
2 new chairs grew from the wood.
The Hunger: roared "STOP! That’s MY food!"
He lunged for Umi.
Minute 8-10: The Choice
Umi could fight.
Or she could do what they learned in Season 8.
She pushed a piece of bread forward.
Umi: "Eat.
And remember what it’s like to not be hungry."
The Hunger froze.
Took the bread.
Ate.
And for 1 second... he remembered being human.
The Fade saw it. Shook.
And dissolved. Because you can’t erase someone who’s being remembered by 12 people at once.
The Hunger dropped to his knees. Smaller.
"You win," he whispered. "All tables are full now."
He vanished. No smoke. Just... gone.
Silence.
Then: music.
Real drums. Real voices.
Amina and Tunde hugged each other. Crying.
4 tables. 4 cities. All saved.
A 12th chair appeared in Salem.
